You might want to try to purchase the Membran "reissues" of the Tsunami releases: they are usually sold for 3-4 £ (I recently got a Rozsa Membran on Ebay for 5 $).

Brendan, I was not "complaining", it was a legitimate question, and for you to say "That is not something Korngold needs" in reference to multi-track compilations---uh hello, may I direct you to the excellent Charles Gerhardt compilations on RCA/BMG ? That is what first exposed me to the music two y...

As for JUAREZ/PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, I found it on both Amazon.fr and Amazon.de, and it may be featured on Ebay. Re: previous Korngold/Tsunami releases, I have four myself and wouldn't call any of them "not worth buying". The best one before J/POP to me would be CONSTANT NYMPH: great pieces througho...

Peter: not much to add to your post: I'm right with you on most (if not all) points. I'll receive my own copy of SEA HAWK/DECEPTION in a few more days, so I might give you my own evaluation of it then. I attendeed 2 concerts of Goldsmith (conducting) and one posthumous (scheduled with him but replac...

Mr Carroll, I apreciate you apreciate I deleted my original response before you replied! :D Knowing you actually read my first response almost makes it better! Did you notice I actually edited it 5 times ? It just shows that the extra time was needed to make it, huh, (not quite) perfect. As for "......

Re: SEA HAWK

[quote="brendan g carroll"] Those who want CDs of the main themes or 'Best of" soundbite type albums, please look elsewhere to the likes of Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner and John Williams./quote] Mr. Carroll, I'm a little puzzled by the above statement, so I'll fire away: other than the fact that the...

I'll just put in my bit. I waited a long time to order this, for whatever reason... I must say I should have reread the last messages here, because this 2CD set IS absolutely delightful, with extra points to PRINCE AND THE PAUPER! Bravo to Tsunami for a work well done! Actually a few weeks before th...

Re: SEA HAWK

We do not need shorter suites from the films. As I have said elsewhere on this board...Korngold's scores are not suited to this kind of treatment. So please be grateful and let us hope such exposure will lead toa complete SEA HAWK being performed in the concert hall. Couldn't agree with you more on...

Apart from the fact that you, Peter, already have this new recording and I'll have to wait a few more days to discover it, you pretty much express my feelings about Sea Hawk: I adore the Varese version (actually prefer it over the original and longrer version from Tsunami). Thus my nervous trepidati...

Once again, I must confess to having made an inane comment.

I guess this goes to prove that we're not all equal at the keyboard.

Has been released now for a few days. I expect to receive mine in a few days. Considering I already have several versions of SEA HAWK (including the extra long from Tsunami), I'm wondering if I can expect anything truly worthwile from the Sea Hawk portion. As for the DECEPTION section, I "obviously"...

Seriously, I don't think Korngold's lack of fame has very much to do with dying too old and ill. I imagine it came from a variety of reasons, such as that his classical career was interrupted twice, first by focusing on arranging light stage music then leaving for Hollywood and becoming a film compo...

Korngold is a myth ?

A few months ago, I found a book that was published in 1993 titled (in French) “Le Printemps des Génies – Les Enfants Prodiges.” (Geniuses in their Prime – Children Prodigies). Obviously, my interest was piqued and I bought it, expecting to find an interesting chapter on Korngold. Well… n...

Suite for Left hand piano... in Geneva, Switz. on July 14 !!

Of great interest to any Korngold fan: his Suite for Left hand piano, two violins and cello, Op. 23 will be performed live in Geneva, Switzerland on July 14 2006. The rest of the program for the evening includes chamber works by Debussy, Bach and Mozart, no less. The Suite itself will be performed b...

Questions about "THE LAST PRODIGY"

On June 10, I posted the text below. On discovering Mr. Carroll’s answer the next morning, I decided to delete the whole thing. I was subsequently asked to restore it in full. Enjoy!
