interesting assessment of Die tote Stadt

This is well worth reading! The article (from a Korngold blog and reprinted on this opera website (from Argentina!) is by Larry Rothe. Larry Rothe is an interesting writer (based in Berkeley, California) and some on this list may already know his excellent book "For the Love of Music" (written with ...

Re: 'Die Tote Stadt' at the San Francisco Opera

Better late than never! Much of what the author says is true. However, I wish that journalists would stop declaring that Korngold "stayed on" in Hollywood, after A Midsummer Night's Dream. He didn't. He was not an exile by choice and divided his time between Vienna and Hollywood until the Anschluss ...

I have never seen the cut print and have no idea which scenes were removed. Similar cuts were made to Sea Hawk for its 1947 reissue and Captain Blood in 1951. I...

Quartet Recording - review from Australia

"If ever you needed a musical snapshot of Vienna between the wars, this is it. (Even though the Third Quartet was composed after WWII). The benign shadow of the elderly Brahms occasionally hovers; likewise, the less benign shade of Schoenberg but – don’t worry, the music occasionally strains ...

'Korngold Symphony at the BBC Proms!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/201 ... t-06/14662

Even though the website erroneously gives the key as F# minor, this is exciting news!
Korngold's Symphony is an ideal work for the Proms and finally after a long campaign, it has finally made it!
