Korngold's OPUS 11
First of all, the main source of Korngold's published music in the USA is European American. I regret I do not have the address to hand but Google will surely bring up the website or you may send an email to Schott. The website there is:- www.schott-musik.com Second, Korngold combined different sect...

Much Ado suite
This movement does exist in a piano & violin arrangement which is available from Schott and you may find this easier to work from than a CD. A piano solo version does not exist at all.

Korngold's reputation
Your post raises an interesting question and perhaps draws attention not merely to the lack of information on Korngold in 1993 but the fact that in France, he was virtually ignored, for decades. Tote Stadt did not receive its French premiere until just before the turn of the 20th century, in Strasbo...

Sea HAWK song
This is indeed by Korngold and is called "Old Spanish Song" and, as is very well known (as noted in all modern recordings of the score and in my book), it was published exactly as it appears in the film (with lyrics by Howard Koch) in Korngold's Opus 38 collection (1948).

Thankyou for your post. I agree wholeheartedly. I was intrigued by the remarks made about Prince & the Pauper because George Korngold definitely had high res tape copies of the original optical stems (from the nitrate originals) in his collection. The fact that this CD omits the delicious end titles...

Tricky question Bob. The short answer is that Korngold never really verbalised his reasons, except in a letter to a friend when he once observed pithily "Why write music in times likes these?". I think the most likely answer is artistic depression. Korngold was profoundly depressed by WW2 and often ...

Tote Stadt
I, too, was at the 1983 premiere, accompanying Korngold's family. In spite of its excesses (including a madonna with a crown of neon lightbulbs) it was the first really great success in Europe for Korngold's opera, since before WW2. I did not know that Dutch TV recorded a performance of the recent p...

I should say that Korngold did nothing to Wagner other than edit the scores. His piano playing of Wagner on the soundtrack however, is one of the most astonishing examples of orchestral transcription I have ever heard...

In brief, the 1983 version is still unreleased. Amsterdam did not record it for TV, and neither did ORF in Vienna.
So no TV planned at all sadly.
The only other DTS next year is on April 1 in Toronto (concert perf. only)

Plagiarism
No charges were ever made because Mr Williams has freely admitted his debt to Korngold on many occasions & conducted his music in concert, and he was a good friend of George Korngold, who even produced albums with Charles Gerhardt of the film music (e.g. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, EMPIRE STRIKES BACK etc). A...
