I just realised that we in fact met at the Symposium in Bern!
So, friendly greetings once more. I suggest you try & get the BBC Philharmonic recording of OPUS 39 on CHANDOS (try www.amazom.com or the Japanese version). It is very good indeed.

George Korngold & John Williams

Right, first of all - I did not reply to this because I could not see the point but as you have a bee in your bonnet about it, Fireheart, I will comment: My dear friend George Korngold produced several albums of Mr Williams' music (EMPIRE STRIKES BACK with Gerhardt on Chalfont, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS & ST...

I just signed off the cover art so, yes, I think it must be mid OCT. I had no idea there was a bootleg double. On what label and where can it be found? KINGS ROW is paired with the complete SEA WOLF by the way. Both have been superbly remastered and sound better than they ever have before...bootlegs...

New recording

While I am delighted that NAXOS has made this CD, can I just state that Korngold was not Czech born. At the time of his birth, Brno was called Bruenn and was part of Austria. He never had a Czech passport, never spoke Czech and considered himself Austrian until the day he died. To be more specific, ...

Sea Hawk s/t

I gather that the TSUNAMI label is about to release a double CD of all the surviving soundtrack recordings for SEA HAWK in remastered sound.
This will replace the existing Tsunami single CD that only contains a truncated selection of cues.

Sea Hawk Song

The original nitrate optical track for the orchestral accompaniment to Dona Maria's song indeed survives and is archived, but sadly, Sally Sweetland's vocal for Brenda Marshall (which was recorded separately and then over-dubbed as was the usual practise then) is not preserved, except of course on t...

Renee Fleming at the BBC PROMS

For those who can receive BBC Radio 3 and BBC TV 4, the PROM on August 6th features Renee Fleming, and she will sing arias from KATHRIN and DAS WUNDER DER HELIANE! It starts 7-30pm GMT and the Korngold is scheduled at 8-45pm.

Don't miss!

CDs and my BOOK

As to CD projects from my list, I regret NONE are currently in the works, though I am always pushing these ideas when approached by CD companies and orchestras. My book was recently available for about $50 on Ebay (I was surprised) and I am still hopeful that a 2nd edition may be possible. If that b...

Compilations

Well everyone, clearly I am always being misunderstood! Of course I have no objections to compilation albums, and yes I know the Gerhardt series started it all. If you read the introduction to my book, you will see that it was the RCA SEA HAWK which started by 35 year passion for Korngold. What I me...

Adverse

I regret I cannot agree with you. This ranks as possibly the WORST ever performance of a Korngold film score in the catalogue. Its chief problem lies in its lamentably slow, sluggish tempi - this, in spite of the fact that the conductor allegedly watched the film many times prior to recording. Charl...
