William Stromberg

Bill Stromberg now has his own BLOG on the web and I think it would be very nice indeed if the many Korngold fans who visit THIS board were to drop him a line at his BLOG message board and thank him (and John Morgan) for all they have done for EWK, and especially the new SEA HAWK double CD on Naxos!...

Elizabeth & Essex CD

This project (with which I was involved peripherally) was a very brave undertaking by dear Tony Thomas, and by Carl Davis who is also a dear friend of mine. As I recall now (from the many transatlantic phone calls to me during the sessions) there were huge problems with the parts (most of the Irish ...

KINGS ROW

Well I can confirm that I completed 13,000 words for the booklet and the CD master was definitely finished. So it must be due soon...!

Die tote Stadt - San Francisco 2008

Die tote Stadt will be presented for the first time at San Francisco opera in Fall 2008. Conducted by Donald Runnicles, the cast will include Torsten Kerl (Paul) and Emily Magee (Marie-Marietta). This may mean that finally, New York's Metropolitan will present it as well for the first time since 192...

A Midsummer Night's Dream to be released on DVD

Warners will release the full 140 minute roadshow version of A Midsummer Night's Dream on August 14 (in the USA only). Digitally restored from the original nitrate camera negative, it includes the Overture & Exit Music and for the first time since October 1935, the Intermission Card and Music. With ...

John Williams

Mr Williams is highly skilled but is a shameless plagiarist. Some examples... Superman - (main title) is actually the most obvious steal of KINGS ROW - its arching 7ths and the fifths of its fanfare motif. The Love Theme from that film is almost note - for - note lifted from the tone poem DEATH AND ...

Sea Hawk & Korngold CDs

Mr Fireheart Glad to see you deleted your original response to my post before I replied...! For the record, and to further explain my indignation, this board is often the very first place that a potential fan of EWK looks for information, and therefore, negative remarks about heroic projects that de...

SEA HAWK

We do not need shorter suites from the films. As I have said elsewhere on this board...Korngold's scores are not suited to this kind of treatment. I agree the timing (vis a vis Naxos) is not ideal but I can recall a time when the idea of TWO Sea Hawk albums being released within months of each other...

SEA HAWK

Once again I am compelled to write some admonishing remarks here, which pains me greatly, because this is a site for Korngold supporters after all. I am sorry if the complete SEA HAWK on Naxos appears expensive at about 14 dollars and 'not worth it'...but I can assure you that the work it took to pr...

DVD

Well the broadcast and the piano session (actually a tape of a party at Ray Heindorf's house in 1951) are both on my copy of the DVD so either you have a duff copy...or you are not looking at the relevant part.

Sorry....

CHANDOS KORNGOLD (latest CD)

The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra has recorded an extended suite (80 minutes) from THE SEA HAWK conducted by Rumon Gamba, which will be released on CHANDOS during Summer 2007, just as soon as I have written the booklet notes.

Korngold in LOS ANGELES 2007

Dear all I have tried [without success] to alter details about events in Los Angeles during the 50th anniversary year on this site and so I am resorting to the message board to advise everyone of the following:- 1. I am not attending the Lieder Recital on May 22 in the Villa Aurora and will conseque...

I can indeed confirm this will be issued by FSM although it is probably more likely in May. I am currently writing an extensive booklet for this release which will provide comprehensive information on the film and its score.

I am not sure this IS the Japanese premiere of Opus 35 which has been a standard repertory piece there for some years there now.
