DVD: Korngold conducts Offenbach

Post by Dennis Miller » Sun Jun 24, 2007 5:02 pm

Greetings from San Francisco,

Does anybody know if this DVD includes film footage of Korngold conducting Offenbach or if these are simply studio recordings included in the documentary?

SUPRAPHON DVD "Jarmila Novotná - Star Of The Metropolitan Opera"

Dear Mr. Miller, I may confirm that this take from the Novotná-DVD in fact is a studio recording by JN and EWK of the famous "Barcarolle" from the opera TALES OF HOFMAN" but as special adaption by our composer for the stage production HELEN GOES TO TROY, April 24, 1944, Alvin Theatre, New York. It ran for 96 performances with J. Novotná as the Belle Hélène. If you are not interested to buy this expensive DVD I may recommend to buy this take as cheap CD "The Radio Years" RY 6- MONO ADD, 1995, Made in Italy, with Novotná only, which you may find for $ 3-4 on a clearance table where I found it. Unfortunately AFTER buying the DVD, oh yes! Bernd O. Rachold, Korngold-archive.-
