The Varese recording (on CD) is actually on e-bay right now - auction ends in 3 days (on Monday, 8 Nov).

"Best recording" is a little subjective. I prefer the Chandos recording (Downes & BBC Phil), the Varese recording, and the Deutsche Grammophon (Previn & London SO), but all the recordings are good.

Hello, Yes! You can buy the recording with Rudolf Kempe at:
www.jpc.de, www.colosseum.de or www.amazon.de
Good Luck!

I own all the recordings of the Symphony in F-sharp save Kempe's and Downes' renditions of it, and I can confidently say that of those that I have heard, James Depreist and the Oregon Symphony beat all of the others in both execution and interpretation. All of the orchestral details on their recording are also much more exposed than on others and this is owed in great part to the excellent sound quality with which the CD was engineered. I'd probably rank Previn and the LSO second because of certain problems with synchronicity between players from time to time and there is also a bit too much reverb produced in the venue they were playing in, the All Hallows Gospel Oak Church. Welser-Most and Philadelphia I would consider next best on account of their sound being too dry. The recording from Albert's set of Korngold's collected orchestral works has atrocious sound and the playing is spotty.

Just to say you can order the Kempe disc from Varese Sarabande's website (cheaper than ebay!).

I noticed that Scott recently published this as a miniature score. It's a welcome edition to the catalogue. I don't care much for the engraving job (looks like it was done in SCORE) but it's great to see it in print. A great way to read and listen at the same time.

Hi, Korngold-aficionados! A little bit late I may draw your attention to one of the best symphony recordings:
McGill Symphony Orchestra, cond. by the Korngoldian Timothy Vernon,
live at Carnegie Hall, Nov. 18, 1990,
CD McGill 750043-2, English, French & German booklet-lines,
with a v e r y nice front-cover by Klimt!
Try your best buying it from McGill directly. Good luck.
