New book on Adventures of Robin Hood score

Post by hal_jackson » Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:39 am

This is a quite lengthy analysis on the Robin Hood score. Received my copy today - quite a bit of detail I've not come across before.

Wondering if anyone else has read it and could post their impressions? I am starting to read my copy tonight....

I was surprised, just within the first chapter or so, at an implied case of co-authorship of the score attributed to the orchestrators. Having studied Korngold sketches, and knowing he altered the full scores, makes this a surprising claim.

I did read your review Brendan - just a few minutes ago. I still like some parts of the book, but I'm not convinced at all by the writer's thesis. (it was nice seeing an inventory of the sketches, copyist conductor's score, and full score though).

I hadn't heard of this coming out and was really surprised to see it.
