Korngold's Grave

Post by Dennis Miller » Sun Mar 27, 2005 10:32 pm

Greetings from San Francisco!

Here is a link to pictures of Korngold's grave in Hollywood, California, where you can pay your respects by leaving notes and flowers.

He is buried along with hundreds of film industry illuminaries, including Charlie Chaplin, Cecil B. DeMille, Rudolph Valentino and Jayne Mansfield!

Can anyone tell me what the musical notes on E.W. Korngold's headstone are? Something from one of his compositions I gather? Thanks I enjoy music but can't read it! :)

The musical quotation on Korngold's grave is the opening bars of the Mariettalied from the opera Die tote Stadt, which his wife considered the most appropriate - as it was his most famous work.
