The Centenary of Die tote Stadt

A century ago, on December 4, Korngold's opera Die tote Stadt premiered in two German cities, on the same night - Hamburg and Cologne.

My extended essay on the opera and its performance history was originally written for a cancelled production this year but is now finally published online (link below) together with rare photos and a unique recording of Korngold improvising on themes from his opera at the piano.
