Korngold at the Royal Festival Hall London

Post by peter hodgson » Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:15 am

You may be interested to note that the Korngold Violin Concerto will be one of the most played works at the Royal Festival Hall in the 2012/2013 season: no less than three performances (2/11/12: Nicola Benedetti/London PO/Osmo Vanska; 14/3/13: Hilary Hahn/Cleveland Orch/Jaap van Sweden; 24/6/13: Andrew Haverton/Corinthian CO/Paul Hoskins). The only other works being played three times are the Dvorak Violin Concerto, Schumann's Second Symphony, Tchaikovsky's 6th and Handel's boring warhorse, The Messiah.

By contrast there's only 10 minutes of EWK at the 2012 Proms - a lunchtime recital at the Cadogan Hall has some violin/piano bits from die tote Stadt, played by Nicola Benedetti. Shameful, when you consider that so much of what is given at the Proms these days is 10th rate tripe.
