Catalogue

Postby brendan g carroll » Mon Mar 10, 2008 5:22 pm

Sorry you felt the catalogue was costly. Of course, most of that cost was in high airmail postage.... so your complaint should really be against the US postal service.

I thought the unit price of the lavish 200 + page catalogue with its unique photos and CD of rare recordings was pretty good.

As for Mariettalied & Schwarzkopf, the reason for this was that the CD was supposed to comprise historic and rare, often previously unpublished recordings wherever possible. Heliane was an exception because Decca allowed an excerpt to be used without cost to the museum. The remaining recordings were either private or over 50 years old and therefore PD.

The RCA Kollo-Neblett (which thanks to Mr Kollo is one of the least attractive renditions ever made) has never been out of circulation. I am sure if the Museum had negotiated its inclusion, there would have been complaints that it was ubiquitous and why wasn't a rare historuc version included.

As the saying goes, you can please all of the people some of the time and....

Ms Schwarzkopf's performance has hardly ever been available, so we thought collectors would appreciate it.
